Approach to Therapy

Therapy is more than talking. Lasting change comes from understanding your emotions while making intentional changes to the habits and behaviors that support overall well-being.

Emotional and physical health are deeply connected. Thoughts, emotions, behaviors, movement, sleep, nutrition, and relationships all influence each other. My approach combines evidence-based psychotherapy with practical lifestyle strategies that support lasting change.

Walk-and-talk therapy naturally reflects this approach by integrating psychotherapy with movement and time in nature. In sessions, we'll explore not only your thoughts and emotions, but also the daily habits and behaviors that build resilience and support long-term emotional well-being.

Amanda Adams is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) who founded Intentional Steps Therapy to provide a more natural, distinctive approach to traditional counseling. Through walk-and-talk therapy sessions on Chicago’s North Shore, Amanda helps clients navigate concerns such as anxiety, depression, and life transitions while benefiting from movement and spending time in nature.

A North Shore native, she majored in Psychology at University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, and earned her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at the Family Institute at Northwestern University.

She previously worked with individuals and families in community mental health settings.

As a former competitive athlete, she understands the unique benefits of physical movement for mental health. That perspective continues to shape the way she practices today.
